The Ives Don't Have It

A moment of silence please, to observe the end of an era in Lake County. For thirty years one name has dominated Lake County political circles more than any other. Not really a name -- more an institution -- sadly, this institution is departing the Lake County political arena.

Your LakeCountyEye of course refers to the Lake County Republican Party.

The GOP has discontinued its political brand in Lake County.

Can you tell which political party this Lake County candidate caucuses with? Your LakeCountyEye cannot:
One bona fide spokesman said: "Normally, party branding is guaranteed to increase vote totals by a certain amount.  However, this cycle it has been estimated that the Republican Party brand will yield, in the aggregate, a negative number of votes. Henceforth, the GOP will be referred to as the Party Formerly Known As Republican ."

Your LakeCountyEye will keep you apprised when further developments warrant.

Jeanne Ives has signs up, in, Cook, DuPage and McHenry Counties too, with no Republican label. (´⊙ω⊙`)!

Congressperson Lauren Underwood (D-14) has her signs up in Dekalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties, with Democrat label. (´⊙ω⊙`)!

No Democrat label

Hi Barney,

You know why Republicans vanished, in Lake County. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hi Eddie

That's a tough question.

Hi Barney,

Lake County, IL is Democratic because:

Recruitment by Terry Link and Lauren Beth Gash,

Changing demographics in Waukegan, North Chicago and Zion,

Remapping of Congressional Districts, State House and Senate Districts by Mike Madigan,

Cutback Amendment,

Cook County residents now living in Cook County.

Correction:

Cook County residents now living in Lake County.

Hi Eddie

Don't forget Trump.

Hi Barney,

Yes, but Trump is ongoing, since 2016 to present. Everything else is at least one or two decades. Cutback Amendment is 1982. ⊙.☉

Hi Eddie

Absolutely. But someone could also argue that Lake County turned blue in 2018 when the Democratic turnout set records.

Hi Barney,

The 2018 midterm elections would be a referendum on Trump, just like 1994 was on Clinton. So, I agree with you.

Hi Barney,

I believe Mike Madigan's goal was/is to colonize Illinois Democratically. With him drawing the congressional, state house and state senate maps and the continued population loss, the districts are much bigger and generally, Democratic. ⊙.☉

Hi Eddie

More luck goes into drawing districts than people care to admit. Congress 6 & 14 were drawn to be Republican vote sinks. Remember Roskam and Hultgren? Those districts are now Democratic and likely to stay that way through 2020. Go figure.

Hi Barney,

Historically, when Denny Hastert had it, the 14th CD was mostly Kane County and points south west.

Today, it's portions of DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will Counties.

Yes, I remember Randy Hultgren and am surprised he lost. I'm surprised Lauren Underwood won.

The 6th Congressional District has a long, interesting history. It was Chicago based originally. ರ_ರ
