Freak Out

Reports of the demise of freak-show politics are greatly exaggerated -- at least in Lake County. As reported on this blog, the April 5 election sent a signal that Lake County wasn't in a mood to vote for the sort of single-issue, extremist, fringe candidates that they favored in 2010:
Low Votage Voters
All of which is unwelcome news to satirical political bloggers, especially those who churn their bread and butter satirizing politics, on the Internet.

However aid & sustenance has arrived in the form of an unlikely white-knight, State Senator Dan Duffy (Fightin'26th). Often affectionately dubbed the Ted Nugent of the Illinois Senate, Duffy's latest altercation occurred during a committee hearing over the appointment of some abortion-rights libtard to some phony human-rights commission. The Daily Herald has the blow-by-blow ...
At one point, committee chair Sen. Tony Munoz, a Chicago Democrat, cut Duffy off. "Do not attack someone," Munoz said loudly. "You're attacking me right now," Duffy replied. Later, Munoz and Duffy had what appeared to be a heated exchange in a corner of the meeting room, even as the hearing continued. "Let's hope we don't have to get boxing gloves out," said Sen. Dale Righter, a Republican from downstate Mattoon.
Duffy has heated exchange in hearing
Your LakeCountyEye understands that threats to bring in a security detail had to be acted upon. In fact the fracas grew so loud that Speaker Michael Madigan adjourned the House session to get a ringside seat on the action.

If anyone could be counted on to ignore the wishes of the electorate, that would be Sen Dan Duffy. Despite what the voters may have said, freak-show politics is alive and kicking in Lake County. Hang in there Dan -- your LakeCountyEye needs the easy material!

BB, exactly how is Duffy "ignoring" the wishes of the electorate? I think Duffy's outrage at the appointment of Cosgrove is well justified. He's representing me just fine, thanks.

hi TA--

I meant the electorate who voted "No" last Tues to freak-show politics.

What specific examples were there of voters voting against "freak show" politics? Lisa Stone wasn't on the ballot anywhere? ;-)

This blog entry is so two faced.

Yes, Duffy can be a dufus, but in this case he is right on target.

He has no friends because he pulls no punches.

I don't know you you define as the "electorate", but I don't remember anyone I know being ok with Quinn's pandering and free handouts to his lackeys.

Hey Dan, if they map you out, go out swinging and take some of those wimps with you.

hi TA,

I didn't know Duffy was your rep. I was under the impression you were a Mettawa trustee(?) My map shows Mettawa in Senate/30 -- not in Senate/26.

hi Anon,

Two faced, or multi-faceted -- either way is fine with me. You say tomato. I say tomato.

BB - you are right, I don't live in Duffy's District, I have the misfortune to live in Link's. Thus, being represented vicariously by Duffy (and maybe Sullivan on the house side, since Sente is equally worthless as Link)is the best I'm going to be able to do.

hi TA,

Can't get them to return your calls?

BB- ha ha! Link is about the last person on earth I'd ever call for anything. Sente, I've spoken to - nice personally but essentially ineffective.

hi TA,

I guess not to expect to see them on your bowling team?
